St. Mary's School and Orphanage began in 1969. In 1992, a new school building was constructed to house and educate up to 300 children. The school has grown quickly and there is a long waiting list of children who seek entrance into the school.
In 1999, a separate school for the deaf was opened. In the first 45 days of operation, 74 children were admitted into the school. Already there is a growing number of children on the waiting list.
There are several doctors from the USA who will be traveling to India to open a medical clinic at the school. Native doctors will provide further treatments for the children after the American doctors return home. A team of engineers is preparing a trip to India to begin a technical school for the older children. They will set up work projects that the young adults can do to provide income for themselves. American audiologists are presently collecting hearing aids to bring to the school. They will be traveling to the school within the year to fit the hearing aids to the children and to teach the children how to use the devices.
If you or anyone you know might be interested in any of these projects or if you have other ideas that might benefit the children, please contact us at Help the Helpless. If you would prefer, we can furnish you with Fr. Antony's address or phone number in India. Perhaps you would like to donate to the building of a school in the memory of a loved one who has passed away. We would be happy to make arrangements to accommodate such requests.
A brochure is available for those who wish to visit the school in India. You are always welcome to stay at the school free of charge.
